Interpretation

Aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) status is reduced to 80% of Level B for C-5 aircraft only. Firefighting and rescue capability for large-aircraft incidents or structural fires is below optimum. Crews should expect exterior fire control to maintain a rescue path for one minute and must exit under their own power with firefighter assistance at egress points. Rescuing multiple trapped personnel poses severe danger to rescuers, and response times may not be met for C-5 and 747 airframes.

FIREFIGHTING AND RESCUE CAPABILITY ARE LESS THAN OPTIMUM TO ASSURE SUCCESSFUL AIRCRAFT FIREFIGHTING AND RESCUE INVOLVING LARGE AIRCRAFT OR STRUCTURAL FIRE SUPPRESSION. FIREFIGHTING FORCES CAN STILL BE EXPECTED TO FIGHT AND CONTROL EXTERIOR FIRES IN SUCH A MANNER AS TO MAINTAIN A RESCUE PATH FOR ONE MINUTE. AIRCREW MUST EXIT UNDER THEIR OWN POWER WITH FIREFIGHTER ASSISTANCE AR EGRESS POINTS. ATTEMPTED RESCUE OF MULTIPLE TRAPPED PERSONNEL SEVERELY ENDANGERS RESCUERS. RESPONSE TIMES MAY NOT BE MET FOR C-5 & 747 AIRFRAME.
